Another release from Artisan Entertainment, and almost just as
good. Their first release this year was the very memorable "The Blair Witch
Project" (if you get a chance to see "Blair Witch" in the drive-in, do. Especially
if it's accompanied with Star Wars: Episode One). This one is very different
in the way of story and presentation. Staring Kevin Bacon as Tom, a common,
descent guy that demands to be hypnotized by Lisa (Illeana Douglas). She hypnotizes
him and plays around with him a little bit. But while playing around, she made
a minor mistake. She told him to open his mind, and his mind took it seriously.
That night the nightmares begin. He keeps seeing things that happened before,
but to someone else, and in the very house that he lives in. Well, him, his
wife, and his son are the only people that have ever lived in the house, so
who was in the house before? Well, he finds out the name of the teenage girl
that appeared on his couch (Samantha) and begins to ask about her around the
neighborhood. Everyone says that she ran away and that she was a bit slow. Well...
some people seem to react to her name, questions are brought up, and a teenage
boy attempts suicide. Tom keeps seeing things and finally decides that he wants
Lisa to close whatever doors she opened. She does the same thing that she did
before, but instead he receives a message from Samantha. Dig. So he goes home
and digs up the entire yard, and soon the house too until he finds Samantha.
Anyway... this movie was very different and well presented. It scared the crap
out of the entire audience because no one ever knew when Samantha would show
up. Directed by David Koep, this movie is amazing and very well done. I was
rather impressed and enjoyed it. Oh! And remember the feathers, you know, the
ones that Jake is afraid to go home because.
