Vincent Price

Vincent Price was born May 27, 1911 in Saint Louis. He grew up to be quite the renaissance man and thespian. At age 27 he began his film career with his first movie "Service De Luxe" in 1938. Over his life time he stared in over 120 movies, but less then one third were horror movies. Everyone knows those though, but did you know that he was also in "The Ten Commandments" or that he played the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith? He played every character possible except for a monster. Even in horror movies he never played a monster, he played victims of circumstance. People who had really bad lives. But those were the roles that he was known for. Movies like "House on Haunted Hill" and "House of Wax" are rather famous films, he also starred in the original version of "The Fly" and "Return of the Fly" but he was also quite the comedian. In a film called "Champagne for Caesar" he played Burnbridge "Dirty" Waters, the owner of a soap company. If you don't believe that he was ever "wacky", then rent this movie, you won't be able to believe that it's him! His character is insane and quite bad, but very funny. His final role was in "Edward Scissorhands" in 1990. He played the inventor and I believe that this was a role that was the closest to the real Vincent Price. Kind, gentle, understanding, happy, and fun. But movies weren't all that Vincent did, he also was in over 75 plays, was a gourmet cook (wrote over 10 cool books), collected art, helped others collect art, and had two children. He was a rather busy man, but that was the way he loved it.
